Life at Klasha
Meet Tega Victor, Talent Specialist at Klasha
My name is Tega Victor; I currently work as a Talent Specialist at Klasha. I am a human resources management and industrial relations graduate from Covenant University, Nigeria.
How did your human resources (HR) journey start?
My HR journey started some years ago while I was still studying at CU, but I decided to go fully into practice when I began working with Teach for Nigeria as a volunteer recruiter. During this time, I got to experience recruitment firsthand via the use of Salesforce, and I also got to sit on interview panels as well. It was quite an experience, and I loved every bit of it.
My learning process hasn’t been smooth, but there is always this conscious effort that I put in to make sure that I learn something weekly, spanning from tutorial videos to research to journals or blog posts on HR to the application of what has been learnt at work. These steps helped me become better in my field.
Work-life as a Talent Specialist
My seven years of talent experience started from Teach for Nigeria, where I worked as a recruiter, to managing the people at SPAR international as an HR manager, to diving into tech at Palmpay as a recruiter for some months before joining Transsnet Group as the recruitment lead, and finally joining Klasha as a talent specialist. My Klasha journey has been fast-paced, swift, spontaneous, and eventful, and I am glad to be a part of the Klasha journey.
My career before Klasha was good but not great; I was into tech recruitment before I joined, but I was more of a specialist then, but I wanted to major in recruitment. Joining Klasha helped me grow as an individual and as a professional. I got to move from being a specialist to being a generalist within a short period. Since joining, my experience building HR infrastructure, managing Klashans, and bringing tools on board to improve the workplace has been my highlight.
I joined Klasha because I was passionate about fintech and wanted to experience growth as a professional as well. My most significant achievement, amongst others, was planning and implementing the one-year Klashaversary for the company at the good beach.
The most exciting part of my job is the people, getting to work and collaborating with bright minds daily, answering their grievances, responding to their questions about work, solving their issues, and others.
Can you explain the process of hiring the right company fit? What are the things the talent team looks out for?
The process of hiring the right company fit involves identifying the right talent by having a cultural session with the talent team where we assess the candidate’s cultural fit with the organisation. The next step is to ensure that the candidate’s experience and skills match the job requirements for the role by having a more in-depth session with the hiring manager. Once that has been completed, the selected candidate(s) get to have a final session with the management before an offer is prepared for the new hire(s).
Can you explain Klasha’s goal for the African market?
Klasha’s goal for the African market is to enable cross-border commerce and ensure that every African user has access to the goods they want, irrespective of their geographical location.
What would you have been doing if you were not a Talent Specialist?
LOL! I told one of my colleagues the other day that if I weren’t a talent specialist or into HR, I would probably have gone into content creation.
What do you do outside work?
Outside work, I enjoy staying indoors and reading. I am not much of an outdoor person.
What do you typically do when you’re bored?
I watch movies, read, play video games, sleep, or play instruments (depending on my mood).
In one sentence, how would you sum up the internet?
The internet is a global village.
